Description
The Van Zante Creek Water Quality Improvement Project targets a reduction in the amount of non-point source pollution of phosphorous and nitrogen in the South Skunk River. It is a joint effort of Marion SWCD and Jasper SWCD to work with the farmers, landowners, and agronomy retailers in the watershed to showcase practices known to reduce nutrient pollution.
The NRCS Nine-Step Planning Process will be utilized in this project. The initial step of the project will identify baseline data and resource concerns. After analyzing the data, practices reducing nutrient losses will be recommended. A Conservation Plan will be developed addressing the priority resource concerns of the project and stakeholder. Practices will then be implemented. Follow-up and evaluation conclude the Planning Process.
